LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles’ youth-oriented art & music community hub, Il Corral in East Hollywood, announces a celebration of the venue’s 2nd birthday on Saturday, January 27th at 7:30pm. The event boasts a bill of new, cutting-edge SoCal music and an all-night dance party scheduled to end at 11am on Sunday.

The birthday party starts with a reception at 7:30pm, followed by screening of 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES!, the critically-acclaimed new documentary film about Il Corral and the talented new performers who appear there each week (http://www.40band80minutes.com).

At 9:30pm sharp, a concert showcase of L.A.’s best underground bands explodes with performances from noise/jazz/hip-hop superstar Bizzart (http://www.myspace.com/bizzart), Crooked Cowboy (the country-music loving alter-ego of synth freaks Totally Radd! http://www.myspace.com/totallyradd), Il Corral founder and extreme noise artist Bob Bellerue (http://www.halfnormal.com/), and L.A.’s most-sophisticatedly raw dance-noise ensemble, Anavan (http://anavan.com/).

Music between sets is provided by DJ Jonathan from L.A. underground icons Captain Ahab (http://www.myspace.com/captainahab), and DJ BJ aka Manny from breakout Portland stars Atole (http://www.myspace.com/atole).

“I’m passionate about dance music, beats that haven’t been heard before,” says DJ BJ, also an artist and queer activist who is making the trip to L.A. from Portland to support a venue that has attracted a fan base up and down the West Coast.

“I will be dancing the whole time—I’ll do dance moves with changes in the beat,” DJ BJ reports. “99% of DJs suck. DJ BJ swallows!””

Finally, after midnight, the party transforms into an all-night dance party, Mindburger, presented by CalArts grad and DJ, Dog of Tears, and his wicked friends Konflux (Psytribe), Catalyx (Mindfull) and Belgian Goa Madness (Mindfull). Please come prepared for an intense trance-dance experience. The evening will begin with a mix of industrial and psychedelic beats before shifting to pure dark trance.

All-night admission for this one-time event is $10, and all proceeds go to Il Corral so that the space can finally own it’s own P.A. system.

“Il Corral’s ascension to the apex of L.A.’s underground art and music scene was confirmed by the success of the venue’s Turn The Screws Festival of Love & Noise, which drew sell-out crowds in December 2006,” says Sean Carnage, one of Il Corral’s regular promoters. “The space serves a core of over 500 experimenters and fans.

“I have curated a cutting-edge rock-and-electronic Monday night concert series at the venue for over eighteen months, and this is how our community thanks Il Corral,” explains Carnage. “This P.A. is absolutely crucial to keep our 2007 music and performance schedule on track.”

“If you are a music fan, you always know you will find the newest and best in ANY genre at the Corral,” Carnage says.

Come solo or bring a date to Il Corral, 662 N. Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles (http://www.ilcorral.net). The event begins at 7:30pm. All-ages admission is $10. For more show info check https://www.seancarnage.com
