About

Hey I’m Sean. I was “born to go” and have been creating and making things ever since I was a little dude. Along the way I’ve been blessed to meet and befriend some incredible geniuses.

I’m a big fan of rock, noise, concerts, art, gay stuff, and technology.

Recently I spilled my guts to icon Lydia Lunch—listen & get my whole spiel

Here’s an overview of some of the things I’ve been involved with over the years:

1971

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania.

1988

Live abroad in France.

1989

Attend my first underground rock shows next door in Cleveland, Ohio: The Pixies, The Cramps, The Jesus and Mary Chain. I’m hooked.

Produce Mask magazine with my friends at school. Learn desktop publishing.

1990

Relocate to Cleveland, Ohio. Attend Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Institute of Art.

Become a radio programmer—later Program Director—at WRUW-FM for the next decade.

1991

Attend my first Euclid Tavern Monday night show, curated by Derek Hess, and end up coming back every week for almost 10 years.

1992

Join up with U.S. Rocker Magazine, originally created by Brenda Mullen, as editor and designer. This ends up becoming my full-time job. We build up the magazine over nearly 10 years into Northeast Ohio’s #1 free underground music magazine with a circulation of 10,000 copies/month. Later I become publisher.

1996

Establish The Invisible City recording studio with Mike Shumaker, head engineer. We end up recording over 150 paid sessions with hundreds of bands.

Become an active attendee and community member at Cleveland’s notorious Speak In Tongues venue.

1997

My band THE DIVINE INVASION builds up a pretty good fanbase, records an EP, and tours the Northeastern US extensively.

1999-2000

RAZAK SOLAR SYSTEM—my new band with Steve and Kev from 9 Shocks Terror—tears it up and even records some killer songs.

2001

Form dark noise pop duo, SEAN + IAN, with my friend Ian Colbert.

2002

Move to Los Angeles, California, to work for Larry Flynt at Hustler magazine.

2003

Host Zeuhl radio show on pirate FM station, Kill Radio.

2004

Create a new kind of porn—Alt-Porn—with Eon Mckai and Joanna Angel. We end up in the New York Times.

2005

Establish Sean Carnage Monday Nights, a “best of the cutting-edge” music + performance showcase. Initial venue is Il Corral at Melrose & Heliotrope. Later we move to Pehrspace in Echo Park. I host over 500 consecutive Monday shows featuring thousands of talented performers.

Become a producer on The Queer Edge with Jack E. Jett & Sandra Bernhard on pioneering Queer Television Network.

2006

Start producing reality TV at 51 Minds. Shows I work on include Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, I Love New York, My Fair Brady, Surreal Life Fame Games, more.

Form COCKWIND, the only gay Hawkwind cover band, with Bret Berg. Later I form COCKLORDS—a gay Hawklords cover band.

My movie, 40 Bands 80 Minutes!, debuts to wide acclaim and Netflix distribution. Over 52 bands performing for up to two minutes are featured.

2007

Become one of the editors of Unzipped, Men and Freshmen magazines—historic “men’s specialty publications.” Also do some work for brother publication The Advocate.

2008

I film my second movie, Friends in Other Dimensions, featuring more classic Los Angeles bands like Health, Ty Segall, Abe Vigoda, Kyle Mabson, more. Movie remains unreleased.

2009

Named “Best Experimental Music Promoter” by L.A. Weekly.

2010

Film 29 mini documentaries, one of which—featuring Ronnie James Dio—goes viral and racks up millions of views on YouTube.

Begin publishing CONCERTPAGE, a monthly Los Angeles concert guide printed on the back of a fine art poster.

2011

Create and host L.A. Lottery League as a member of the Council of Chiefs (with Deseret Rodriguez, Dalton Blanco, Michael Nhat). We mix up L.A. musical acts to create new bands and never-before-heard sounds.

Curate L.A.’s Got Talent art show featuring dozens of local artists at Sancho Gallery in Echo Park. I produce 30 different tie-in events, one for each day of the exhibition.

Start working at creative agency, Zambezi. Over the next 8 years I produce hundreds of digital apps, videos, web sites and experiences. My team even wins a Cannes Gold Lion among many other awards.

2013-16

Co-found and play bass in the outlaw rock band, SONS OF THE BITCH.

2017

Sobriety calls and a whole new chapter in my life opens up. I’m filled with gratitude for this change!
