Forget Swiss neutrality—Syndrome WPW is fully partisan. The sonic manifesto? Analog noise that compels you to dance.
I am so excited for tonight’s Syndrome WPW performance. I didn’t think this interview would happen (American customs regulations are making things very hard for international performers to travel the U.S.A. right now). But Syndrome WPW made it to Los Angeles last night. So here it is…better late than never.
This music makes me feel so alive. And I think you will adore the video and the free mp3s after the jump.
What’s your name and age? Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
Serge, 36. Ecublens near Lausanne (Suburb-countryside) but I reside in Lausanne.
What’s your earliest sonic memory?
Anne Sylvestre, singer for children.
What musicians or artists are your biggest inspirations?
Crass, Berurier Noir, Jean-Jacques Perrey, and a lot more.
What songs do you love right now?
“Batcaves” by Kap Bambino.
What makes you really angry?
How long have you been making music?
How would you describe your aesthetic?
Analog gear freak that saw too much punk and hardcore bands when he was a teenager.
What releases do you have out?
Marek Marek’s Murder (Midinette Records 2008)
What’s the music scene like where you live?
I don’t really have a musical family in my hometown. My friends are rather into noise or experimental or jazz stuffs.
What’s the meaning of songs like “Kein Sex Mit Nazis”? And “Massacre de hippies”?
“Kein Sex Mit Nazis” is a graffiti I saw in a German squat. Means “no sex with Nazis.” A funny way to express antifascism. “Massacre de Hippies” means hippie slaughter. The lyrics don’t really mean something, they imitate the aesthetics of the lyrics of ’80s French punk bands.
If you could choose between making love or writing new music what would you choose and why?
Making love, it’s healthier.
