Tape #1: James Blood Ulmer Blues Preacher

One of the greatest, most brutally progressive jazz guitarists of all time. Worked extensively with Ornette Coleman. Here he transitions into electric blues with a danceable, Harmolodic edge that’s pretty catchy.

Sound quality and condition of this original issue metal tape is A++. Loaded with bells and whistles like full color photos, die-cut liner notes plus transparent case mean this is from late in the original cassette era (1994) when these features were required to compete with CDs. Very cool.

Tape #2: Charnett Moffett Beauty Within

Widely recorded improvisational bassist Charnett Moffett is the rare player who has thrived in the traditional, fusion and free jazz worlds simultaneously. Moffett came to my attention via his excellent playing on Sonny Sharrock’s Ask the Ages which came out just after this 1989 release (which is admittedly more smooth than progressive). Astounding all the same! Original Blue Note cassette for collectors.
