NEW! UPCOMING SHOW: ST. VALENTINE’S GAY—A NIGHT OF CUTTING-EDGE MUSIC, DJs… & VEGAN MASTER CHEF/QUEER ICON JOSHUA PLOEG!!!
LOS ANGELES: Sean Carnage and Totally Mag! Magazine are proud to announce “St. Valentine’s Gay: A Night of Radical Music, Food & Fun for Queers,” on Monday, February 12th at Il Corral, East Hollywood’s premiere underground music and art performance space.
The event features performances from young, cutting-edge performers that will appeal to music fans both queer and straight: post-post-punk rockers Robin Williams On Fire (from Oakland), the singing and dancing multi-media star Macka, all-girl hard-rockers The Pristines and surrealistic crooner Alexis Gideon, who will also emcee. Superstar L.A.band Mika Miko’s Kate Hall is also slated to perform with guitarist Elijah Forrest.
DJs include Il Corral’s DJ Z Kyle and Margot Totally Mag!, co-host of the event and publisher of Totally Mag! celebrity zine.
As an added bonus, vegan master chef and Outpunk Records pioneer Joshua Ploeg (formerly of the radical queer punk band Behead The Prophet) will be creating original, all-vegetable sweets and savories to celebrate St. Valentine’s!
Come solo or bring a date to Il Corral, 662 N. Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles (http://www.ilcorral.net). The event begins at 9:30pm. All-ages admission is $5. For more show info check https://www.seancarnage.com
“St. Valentine’s Gay is a celebration of queer youth and talent that builds on the success Margot Totally Mag! and I have had with our two previous Totally Gay! Nights at Il Corral,” says regular Il Corral Monday Night concert curator Sean Carnage.
“I’ve been hosting cutting-edge performers—the cream-of-the-crop from L.A. and across the nation—for nearly a year and I believe that this is our strongest line-up yet,” Carnage remarks. “If you are interested in underground music and expression—and if the straight AND queer mainstream burns you up—you owe it to yourself to check out this convergence of mayhem, music… and excellent food!”
Il Corral’s ascension to the apex of L.A.’s underground art and music scene was confirmed by the success of the venue’s Turn The Screws Festival of Love & Noise, which drew sell-out crowds in December 2006.
In addition, Sean Carnage’s documentary of the scene that has sprung up around Il Corral, 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES!, is now in wide release on DVD and has been racking up accolades from fans and publications. The L.A. Times who’s Chief Pop Critic Ann Powers selected 40 BANDS! as the #1 Pop Music DVD of 2006 in the Holiday Gift Guide, a big coup for music makers and young queers in Southern California.
“Totally Mag! (http://www.totallymag.tk) is a hilariously subversive celebrity magazine, so expect lots of wild pranks and surprises,” Carnage notes. “Margot and her crew will be documenting the evening for an upcoming issue of the magazine, so don’t miss out—if you’re punk and queer, this is your invitation to come join the fun!”
