BEST OF THE DRUID UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL DVD PROGRAM
TELL-A-VISION
Dave Kidd
A gang of crusty old Humboldt county punks blow away television sets with 12-gague shot-guns under a freeway onramp before the cops show up.
VISIONS OF TERROR
Rodney Ascher
Arscher’s love of grainy VHS horror movies becomes concentrated in a ghostly character played by Josh Fadem who episodically interrupts a woman’s life in order to recommend cheesy VHS for her to watch. Hallucinatory, disturbing and hilarious.
CRISPY
Darren Herczeg
The horror of a juicy, crispy hair permanent.
HANK COCKPIT STORY
John Henry Haseltine
In the scummy tradition of black and white exploitation flicks, here is a mock trailer for a shockingly mundane individual.
HAUNTED HEART
Winona Regan
Regan creates a beautifully original hand drawn mythological story that is as sweet as it is disturbing. Animals, witches and humans express fear and desire in a potpourri of tense moments, which include voyeuristic alligators, transmutation and sex while flying in the air.
STUMP: A YAHI STORY
Richard Roth
While filming a farmers market, Roth is accosted by an inebriated Native American man with a brutal message.
FOR STEVE
Anon
A song for Steve Irwin.
DECORATION AND YOU
Trulee Grace Hall
Filmmaker Trulee Grace Hall constructed over a half dozen renditions of the same dollhouse- the largest being the two story, human-sized set she places her characters within. What starts as a do-it-yourself instruction video gives way to a barrage of “decoration” suggestions that serve to distract the viewer as the scale of the characters and their surroundings become magically inter-changeable.
FANTASYCORE
Tasman Richardson
French video DJ Richardson melts together footage from all manner of animated fantasy films to make a collage of intense, inescapable images.
LET’S MEAT
Ben Cuevas
A lofty poet narrates the thrill of two lovers who integrate raw meat into their sexual rendezvous.
BUG SHOW
Aimee Goguen
Goguen and her friend discover a bizarre desert insect.
KABIR SONG
Anal Shah
Filmed in India, this work follows a wandering spiritual musician and captures a raw, back-alley gaze into the soul of a mysterious culture.
JIMMY JEINSEITS
Romeo Grunfelder
Jimmy is an old man who relates a bizarre story of sexual folly in his ugly apartment.
HORS-HUMAIN
Yann Minh
Minh documents a day in the life of a free spirited man who hangs upside-down off of a freeway onramp, escapes the police, and sings at the top of his lungs.
APRIL’S FOOL
Moises Jimenez
Jimenez animates multi-colored skeletons among a glowing battery of scratches and slashes over timeless film footage of a creepy little girl.
SKATEBANG
Damon Packard
Packard opens his brilliant bundle of tricks once again in a harsh and ironic mass of found and filmed footage. This time he brutally juxtaposes Madonna, sniper-shoot demos, violent skateboard injuries, and a manic doppelganger of himself.
I LIVE IN THE WOODS
Max Winston
Winston stop-motion animates a rowdy, purple bearded sprite who leaps about the forest doing whatever his little black heart desires (including violent clashes with local taxidermy animals come to life). The only challenger to his throne is God himself.
KEEP-A-KNOCKIN’
J.S.D.B.
Underground punk unknowns J.S.D.B. shot this hilariously hi-octane music video epic in a suburban home somewhere in LA. Unmistakably American, unmistakably original, unmistakably ‘80’s.
FREEDOM FOREVER
William Burgess
Druid Underground Film Festival curator William Burgess shot this short in two days leading up to a Halloween edition of DUFF. The story surrounds the character of Joe, a man at the end of his rope until the Grim Reaper himself is called upon to straighten him out. Partially shot in Trulee Grace Hall’s dollhouse set before the building was demolished to make a parking lot.
RIDE SHARE
Dave Kidd
A series of surreally grotesque hitchhikers serve as moral allegories as an unwitting driver learns the ultimate lesson of all.
Don’t miss the show…
