TONITE: SEAN CARNAGE KEEPS IT REAL!!!

Health/Foot Village/Kyle Mabson are playing at the Smell tonite. I am very sad that this could not be my show, especially since it is happening on a Monday. But Health didn’t book it—it was in the realm of the booking agents, and I don’t work with booking agents. The saddest part is that I won’t get to hear all the great music that I’m sure will be played by this talented bunch tonite, nor will I get to hang with many of my friends.

But honestly, this has happened to me before. Reference: almost the entire decade of the ’90s. Back then, Nirvana caused the majors to go on an 8+ year indie buying spree and my most beloved bands were suddenly playing nothing less than 400 seat auditoriums! That had mixed results in the end, but when you are in a band, moving up is unquestionably thrilling. And proper. Plus, Health will be DJing at my Pehrspace show *next* Monday, so don’t miss them. They are L.A.’s pride and joy.

When you are on the side of the underdog like I am (i.e., giving shows to small bands and new performers), you must get used to the fact that great musicians move up and out… they cannot play capacity 49 places like Pehr forever.

So good luck to my friends tonight. I will be at Pehrspace, doing my regular thing: hosting extraordinary new music!

I am so proud of tonite’s line-up, and any chance I get to collaborate with marvelous Mitchell Brown and KXLU is a true blessing. We will be dancing. Will you join us?
