TO LIVE & SHAVE IN L.A. …IN L.A.!!!!
I was asked to DJ for this show—woo-hoo!! I love to DJ 🙂 Thank you, Michael Fierstein!
Michael’s Sunday night Pehr show was awesome and it featured one of my all-time favorite groups, To Live and Shave in L.A.
Liz Armstrong (aka Misty Martinez) was there and it was so great to see her again!!! Liz was one of a group of really fun and smart Chicago people I got to know in the 1990’s. I have a poster for the spring 2002 show I did with Misty at Pat’s in the Flats in Cleveland hanging in my bedroom. Liz looked and sounded amazing—as usual—as she poured her back-up vocals over group founder Tom Smith’s lead ranting.
TLASILA was sounding *so* good. They were like an ominous blues/noise tornado whipping through the space. I was impressed by the band’s cool reinvention of their sound. It takes a lot willpower to transmute your style as you stay true to what originally made you great. I supose it’s just group evolution, but it remain a difficult trick to pull off. Tom Smith did it. Enjoy the photos.

Freddy says he has one show left for his performing. I hope he doesn’t rule it out completely for the future because he’s someone who’s worth listening to every time he plays—and I appreciate that as music fan. Of course there’s something to be said for going out on top… this show was *raging* (and it was in a noise context, too)!!!!
