THIS WEEK: CUTTING EDGE VIDEO **AND** NEW MUSIC! PLUS: PHOTOS OF DEMOLISTEN NITE W/ MI AMI, DOGWEED, PINCHED NERVE, DJ BIG TV, ZAQ LANDSBERG PINATA DE-INSTALL AND MORE!!!
What a fantastic night at Pehrspace this past Monday! Fuck!! So good!
DJ Big TV brought the KXLU Demolisten crew, some insanely lysergic video projections, and a HUGE crowd of music lovers. Damn—great job Fred and Octavius!!
They set the tone for the whole night: psychedelic exploration.
Pinched Nerve is from San Francisco and they totally rocked the crowd. I am at a loss for comparisons here. They did three-piece synth/psych in a very original manner, with great singing, tunes and an incredible rhythm section.
Dogweed was, thanks to Fred, the first country band I have ever hosted on a Monday Night. Well… sorta country. Truth be told, they were better than any country band I have heard in recent years, with a kickass drummer, inspiring guitar solos, and great group interplay that had bass/acoustic guitar/banjo/accordion/etc. all weaving together into this amazing tapestry of noise and rocking twang. Bravo, my dudes. I think it’s safe to say they surprised everyone and made a ton of new fans.
Mi Ami was really fucking INCREDIBLE!!! Goddamn…. new favorite band?! Could be—I love how all the intruments are essentially turned into percussion that just percolates along until singer/guitarist Daniel turns up the heat with his unbelievably high-pitched and expressive bleating vocals. Then the whole sound boils over and it’s like WOW! Your ass and feet can’t stop moving… heart’s pounding and you remember how great it is when a smart band turns your brain, your soul—the whole fucking room!—upside down. Mi Ami needs to come back soon. I offered them a full month of Monday shows so let’s see if they can make that work. Even a single show would be great. CHECK OUT MI AMI. CHECK OUT MI AMI. MI AMI MI AMI MI AMI
I was outside telling everyone that Zaq Landsberg’s pinata was about to come down, and when I went back inside, it was already pretty much demolished! Perfect for Demolisten night, right? Anyhow, I missed the initial destruction by like a minute, but you can kinda guess how it went down.
Zaq is a really inspiring person-to-watch. I like how he thinks, and his works look good, too (they are not just mere concepts), which is, ya know, a big bonus when you are working in a visual medium. I am sad he is going to NYC but am also excited to see what he unleashes next.
Kyle provided some jams and great back-up with the sound (as usual). It was a wild night—the people in attendance were so inspiring! Thanks, everyone. Please come back for…
