THIS MONDAY’S SHOW IS GONNA ROCK!!! PLUS: AMAZING NEW PHOTOS!!!!
This past Monday, January 21st, was to be Brian Miller’s curated show but, unfortunately, a wave of illness, accidents (Blowupnihilist’s van rolled over and caused $6500 worth of damage) and crummy weather almost made the whole thing fall apart. Even my camera crapped out. Is it any wonder that psychologists call Jan. 21 is “the most depressing day of the year”?
But, hey, this was a Sean Carnage Monday, so with help from Brian and Jonathan from Captain Ahab, we picked ourselves out of the gutter and came up with one of our best concerts ever!
Eustachian and Surachai were incredible, dark black metal-meets-electronic brutality and instantly became my two new favorite performers! Dreamhouse was pure Jodorowsky “Panic Event” insanity—so great! Kyle Mabson even got into it, pushing John Thill repeatedly into the chaotic pit Dreamhouse instigated with their 100 foot blue tarp.
DJ the Flashbulb was superb, and I wish he would have stuck around longer. Cole (ex-Toxic Loincloth) was supposed to play as part of Animal Birth Control, but he took the stage solo, and it sounded/looked like his new project Human Hands. Whatever you want to call it, Cole was very spiritual and intensely singular after Dreamhouse’s mayhem—an awesome contrast.
Finally, Winners played their debut Pehr show and it was a fucking blast!! This is one of the best new L.A. groups around. They mixed beats, highly weird ‘n beautiful singing and even Nazi-esque dance routines and came up with pure gold, man. You gotta check out this band!
Mabson was clearly jazzed by all the craziness, and jammed tune after tune creating a huge end-of-the-night dance party—the biggest in recent memory. No one wanted to go home, and when we finally left it was very very late indeed.
This week’s Monday show is quite special. The theme is ROCK (my fave) and thinking about this incredible bill has been keeping me going for the past two months at least. NASA Space Universe is so so rad! The other bands are new, and they will blow your freaking mind! I am very proud of this show so I hope you can make it.
See you there?
