Smell pix: Nilbog, New Motherfuckers, Agape, Smooth Grooves & more!
I almost didn’t make it to the Smell on Saturday night because of the rain which temporarily crippled my car. But Escarlatta picked me up (thanks!) and I rocked all night to some great music!
Nilbog is L.A.’s Goblin cover band. It’s an all-star line-up, featuring Jonathan from Captain Ahab, Bret from Rib Bib and Anavan, Nick from Rose for Bohdan and Extreme Double Bubble, Il Corral regular Will K. and others. They cover obscure horror and sci-fi film music by ’70s bands like Goblin. L.A. is very lucky to have Nilbog. Where else can you mosh to esoteric music like this?
The New Motherfuckers were really good. Agape was his usual amazing self. However, he had some equipment problems and flipped out! I think he was a bit sheepish after he attempted to smash some electronic gear. But, really, it just added to the show.
Smooth Grooves is a new band with Kyle H. Mabson from Cock In Black and Josh Taylor of Friends Forever/Debaser. This was their debut show and I gotta say, it’s one of L.A.’s best new bands. Definitely not smooth, though. Ironic devils.
Because of the aforementioned storm, I missed Bark Bark Bark, but he is jamming at Il Corral tonight so don’t miss him! Das ist gut!
Ok enjoy the pix…
