OLD NEWS & NEW PHOTOS: GABBERTREE vs. REALICIDE, RED HOT THILLY PEPPERS 360, BIRTH!, & FLESHTONE!!!

FIRST SOME NEWS: Not so many updates to SeanCarnage.com lately, but that’s because I’ve been super pre-occupied with developments in my life.

Richmond is officially in NYC now and Kyle Mabson is my roommate. Thank you to everyone who has stuck by me through these very emotionally difficult 6 months while my brain was being torn apart. I’m going to NYC to visit Richmond in two weeks, and I’m very excited by that. Kyle’s been a great roommate so far, and he had Juiceboxx staying at our place this weekend (as well as Bay friends Jessie and Dylan) so that was fun. It looks like this new living arrangement is gonna kinda be a return to the days of the Invisible City with 13 band members crashed on the floor… back to the future, indeed.

I painted my apartment this past weekend, and I am super-exhausted today. Fuck. On top of that, I’ve been cranking at least one feature article a week for my job. It’s been challenging to find any free time at all.

But I did check out the Juiceboxxx/I.E./Captain Ahab/Small Breed show this past Saturday night at the Smell, and I was glad I did. The music was absolutely fantastic, and except for being falling-down tired from painting, I really enjoyed myself. High quality music from start to finish, and I commend all the performers.

Last Monday, Matt from Outsider Folk and I collabo’ed on my Pehrspace show and that was cool, because with all the turmoil in my life lately, I was not up to hosting a show all on my own. I still don’t have a camera, but Chris Payne took photos of the event and I will get them from him at Pehrspace tonite. The music was really incredible—especially Tommy Santee Klaws. Kind of an unlikely name, but RAD fucking three-part harmonies from guys who know how to sing and have something to say with their music. More on the is event in an upcoming post. But I just wanted to say thanks to Matt and the Outsider Folk performers who all did such a great job. Great margaritas, too (it was Cinco de Mayo)!!!

Two weeks ago, Chris Payne took photos of the AMAZING Gabbertree vs. Realicide/Red Hot Thilly Peppers/Birth!/Fleshtone show.

Show of the year!?

Perhaps. If you like industrial, it certainly was. Birth! and Gabbertree—with the smart addition of Robert Inhuman—were fucking untouchable. Go—RUN!—to see these performers at your next possible opportunity. So impressive.

Red Hot Thilly Peppers were supposed to have Dan Deacon join them. At last minute, Dan got sick and had to cancel (please please do NOT take Dan to TV Cafe next time he is in town, okay!?). Instead, the Peppers borrowed his gear and his glowing green skull. You can see it in the photos below. I don’t want anyone to think I was jiving them about the Dan Deacon appearance. Food poisoning happens…. Anyhow, I am looking forward to Dan’s next appearance in L.A.

BTW, the Thilly Peppers inhabit this tiny area between performance art/karaoke/totally annoyance/pure inspiration. Needless to say I loved it. And I guess you did, too…?

Well, there certainly were a lot of great friends at the show, and I was happy you all were there.

I do these shows for the supporters of underground art and music—my friends—and the performers. We’re not going to let this artform we love EVER die out!!!
