MONO-VEMBER HAS BEGUN!!! NEW PHOTOS: THE MONOLATORS, PIZZA!, ZOMBELLE, ALLUSIONS TO JAZZ, AND CREEKBIRD!!!
Mono-vember is The Monolators every Monday in November at Pehrspace!!!
And it got off to a fantastic start this past Monday.
It was also my birthday—thanks for the amazing show, the presents, your company… it was my best birthday yet!
Anyhow, I was waiting until after the election brouhaha died down to post these photos.
I had an idea to call this post “YAY—WE ALL WIN!!” and brag about Obama’s victory, the great Monday concert the Monolators headlined, and the defeat of anti-gay Prop 8 here in California…. BUT….
Well, you probably all know how that turned out: Prop 8 passed.
So then it suddenly didn’t seem like a full-on celebration (despite Obama’s victory and my b-day show being the highlights of the year so far). And I was thrown into full-on work mode: I have been covering the Prop 8 aftermath with the team at Unzipped.net
But now, days later, I am rejuvenated looking at these Monday pics below. Isn’t it amazing how music and friends can get you through even the worst shit?
Creekbird made a wild Monday night return with an amazing performance of his very, very twisted pop songs.
Allusions to Jazz are Kyle Mabson/Josh Taylor/John Thill—and on this night… me!
That’s right, Sean Carnage (and Creekbird) provided the “jazz” to match the Allusions’ “free.” I have no idea what it sounded like out front, but I had a fucking blast!
Zombelle was nothing short of incredible. Her drum-less gothic gospel rock was instantly unforgettable.
Pizza! are perhaps the most rocking, and most imaginative, band in Los Angeles. Their songs are like pop culture and all its associated responses and emotions thrown into a Cuisinart and blended at “high.” I can’t recommend this one-of-a-kind band any more highly.
The Monolators began their Movember stint with an absolutely hair-raisingly amped tear through their incredible early material. It was a treat to be able to hear how their sick and rocking inspiration first manifested. For a lot of folks like me, it was all new and it was revelatory.
The Monolators are the first to use their month-long curation to play **all** their music and I am absolutely thrilled!
