IL CORRAL BENEFIT RAISES OVER $1,500… THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY WE ARE GETTING A KILLER PA, PEOPLE!!!
A big HUGE thank you to the music fans, bands and DJs that came together Saturday night to buy the Il Corral a new PA. The night brought perhaps the biggest crowd the venue has ever seen.
We needed to make money for a new PA, and we were worried about raising enough.
So… Are you ready for this? Because the figures are in:
$1,564.00 was raised IN ONE NIGHT!!!
Thanks, everybody!
Add that to the money Il Corral already had in the bank, and we have enough money to purchase a killer new PA.
You will see the new PA go in over the next several weeks. We have already begun acquiring components!
Il Corral couldn’t have done it without you.
THANK YOU!!!
The show was fantastic—and that did not go unnoticed. The L.A. Times was there and a report about the Il Corral and photos of benefit headliners (and co-organizers) Anavan should be appearing in the newspaper on Thursday, so watch for that.
Saturday was a wild day. I cleaned Il Corral all afternoon with Christie, Stane and the Mindburger rave people. Whew! We were exhausted after that. I hope you all like what we did. The rave people lent us art and I think the place looked very special.
Then there was a screening of 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! with every seat in the main room taken. Over 20 people watched the movie—many for the first time—so that was a massive success. Yeah!
Unfortunately, somewhere around this time I skipped dinner, and proceeded to enjoy refreshments that people were gracious enough to provide. Thanks, everybody, for being so generous. But this was not a smooth move on my part. I am just not a raver, I mean “all-night dancer.” I am a naive Ohio boy. I got wrecked.
The music ruled. Robin Williams On Fire, DJ Jonathan of Captain Ahab, Kyle Mabson, Bizzart, Anavan, Crooked Cowboy, Mindburger—David’s rave crew—were so fun. The crowd was dancing and insane all night long.
Every group had a small amount to time to perform (5-20 minutes), making it like a demented Jerry Lewis-style telethon. This was good because you got to see the breadth of the Il Corral aesthetic, and bad, because I think all the factions that came together had different expectations. For example, I know people were disappointed Crooked Cowboy couldn’t play longer. But even by playing 20 minutes, they made such a difference for our community and I am very grateful to them and their fans.
All the contributions (time, money, work) from EVERYONE in attendance added up to a MASSIVE SUCCESS for the Il Corral community—a community that is boiling over with creativity and energy!!!
Thanks again everyone! Please come back soon and hear some great noise on our new PA.
